The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was established in 1983 by Atlantic Records founder and chairman, Ahmet Ertegun to recognize and archive the history of the best-known and most influential artists, producers, engineers and other notable figures who have had some major influence on the development of rock and roll. The permanent home of Cleveland was chosen in 1986 with an opening in 1995. There are seven levels within the Hall of Fame that feature exhibits on the roots of rock & roll, cities of influence, artifacts, signatures and interactive kiosks of various bands, artists, and one-hit wonders, not to mention all of the inductees. There are three theaters, one being a 3-D theater. Finally, there are the large, temporary exhibits that have in the past featured Elvis Presley, Rolling Stones, U2, John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen.
