Professional Development

Strive to be the Best

The ZRA is a transparent, forward-thinking organization that encourages member participation in establishing industry-wide standards and sharing knowledge. It facilitates global communication among animal records professionals and registrars worldwide, providing easy access to resources and professional development opportunities.

ZRA Empowers Registrars

There are many ways that the Zoological Registrar's Association supports its members in their professional development goals:

  • Every year, ZRA plans in-person Annual Conference, hosted by one of the members.  At this event, members gather to network, learn from each other, and explore a new zoo or aquarium to see how they manage their records.
  • ZRA provides scholarships for members to attend the Institutional Records Keeping course at AZA's Professional Development school.  This is an intense, week-long, in-person workshop focused on learning the basic skills of records management.  The ZRA scholarship covers the registration cost.
  • ZRA's own Training Certificate Program (TCP) is an online course that goes into detail on important record-keeping topics like permits, animal shipping, archive management, and others.
  • There are many other grants and scholarships available: to attend the conference, to pursue Certified Records Management certification, or any other professional development opportunity that applies to zoo and aquarium records managers.
  • The membership of ZRA is itself a treasure trove of people with specialized skills, knowledge, and experience.  The ZRA mentorship program connects our members so that we can learn from each other.
  • The Resources page provides easy access to other sources and other websites with valuable learning.opportunities.
